Abstract

The reading comprehension of students as they engage in theme learning is the focus of this study. This
study used a qualitative descriptive methodology based on an inductive research strategy. Interviews,
participant observation, and documentation were the means of data collection. The steps involved in data
analysis include gathering data, presenting and verifying that data, and finally making conclusions. The test
results obtained on the reading ability of students at SD Muhammadiyah 107 Jarai showed that a small
number could not read. Students who are not yet able to read such as spelling the syllables: table, book-ku,
reading the words: book, ruler and reading sentences: mother went to the market, Budi was playing football.
This problem shows that there are factors that influence it both from the family and school environment, this
shows that students' lack of concentration in learning, lack of media and good teaching from teachers makes
students unable to read. Solutions that can be applied to overcome students' reading abilities at SD
Muhammdiyah 107 Jarai include: Teachers change learning methods that can be adapted to students' needs,
create interesting media, good infrastructure. read so that students are more enthusiastic, the teacher gives
rewards to students who succeed in reading well, such as reading syllables, words and sentences, discuss
learning assistance activities for 15 minutes every day at home. Full support for students to be enthusiastic
about learning, especially in reading.
